Moxibustion

Moxibustion involves burning a Chinese herb called “mugwort” on or around the general area of the acupuncture point.  There are various application methods for moxibustion which include; moxa on needle (Kyotushin), moxa stick, moxa cones, moxa boxes and moxa with minerals.

Mugwort gives of a distinctive smell when burnt and some people prefer the smokeless Moxa but the healing properties associated with this herb may be reduced.  Your practitioner will determine if Moxibustion is a suitable treatment method according to the symptoms associated with your condition.

In China it is not uncommon to place Moxa directly onto the skin to increase the body’s response to treatment.  This can cause blistering and scarring and so is not commonplace in the UK.
