Traditional Chinese Medical Acupuncture. An Introduction

The basic principles of Chinese Medicine have been recorded for over 2000 years.  The belief system is vastly different from the Western Medicine that we are accustomed to in our society.

Acupuncture

Traditional Chinese Medical Acupuncture theory acknowledges fourteen main meridians/channels running through the body.  These meridians are the channels where our energy (Qi) flows freely to ensure life is maintained. Each meridian relates back to one of the twelve major ZangFu organs and along each meridian there are a number of points which can be manipulated to activate the Qi in each meridian.

The physiological and psychological response varies according to the combination of acupuncture points used and how frequently they are manipulated. There are several hundred acupuncture points around the human body. A specific point prescription is chosen for each individual according to and their presenting symptoms.

As with any form of treatment the body will not respond to Acupuncture instantaneously.  The healing process takes a number of sessions over a period of time.  As with most holistic/treatments Acupuncture does not aim to suppress the symptoms but rather it concentrates on treating the cause of somebody’s ailments.
